Who is Ratatoskr?

In Norse mythology, Ratatoskr was a squirrel who lived in the world tree, Yggdrasil. Ratatoskr was known for carrying messages between the gods of Valhalla at the top of the tree and man of Midgard at the roots of the tree .

Ratatoskr was sometimes described as a mischievous little creature who spread gossip between the eagle and the serpent.

Despite Ratatoskr’s mischievous behavior, the squirrel was not seen as an evil creature in Norse mythology. Rather, Ratatoskr was simply a part of the natural order of things, fulfilling its role in the complex web of relationships and interactions that made up the Norse cosmos.
